Jefferson Airplane's After Bathing At Baxters left the hanger on this day in 1967. Pink Floyd released the monumental double album The Wall on the final day of November in 1979, and Sammy Hagar was out with Three Lock Box on 11/30/1982. What just might be the ultimate Rock collectible is headed for auction in December. Bonhams auctions will drop the gavel on a console Elvis Costello and Chris Difford of Squeeze put together that combines Helios recording studio consoles that were used in the recording sessions for Led Zeppelin IV, as well as studio recordings by Bob Marley, Eric Clapton, David Bowie, the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Steve Winwood and dozens more. Early estimates put its value at $700,000, but it is likely to land a top bid well north of a million dollars in the December 11 auction in London.

11-28-1968 Jimi Hendrix plays Philharmoic Hall in New York City

Hendrix had wanted to play Carnegie Hall but was turned down. Lincoln Center agreed to two concerts at Philharmonic Hall (later re-named Avery Fischer Hall, provided a classical artist open the show.  Harpsicordist Fernando Valenti was tasked with the unenviable challenge.  A raucous audience eager for the headliner made matters miserable for Fernando. Taking pity, Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell emerged to provide some percussion late in his set. Hendrix delivered an electrifying set that left ushers as the classical venue shellshocked.

11-27-1942 Jimi Hendrix born

 

Jimi Hendrix joined this world on 11/27. On this day in 1967, Magical Mystery Tour got released. In 1970 George Harrison put out All Things Must Pass and the Kinks released one of the longest title albums ever, Lola Versus The Powerman and the MoneyGoRound, Vol. 1. The following year on 11/27 Alice Cooper's Killer album dropped.

11-26-1968 Cream stages Farewell Concerts at Royal Albert Hall

 

Cream did two Farewell Concerts on this day in 1968 at Royal Albert Hall. They were joined by Yes and Irish guitar great Rory Gallagher on the bill. Born on 11/26; Tina Turner (1939) and Fleetwood Mac's John McVie (1945).

 

Heart releasing 2006 concert

 

Heart releasing 2006 concert that included Alice in Chains, Dave Navarro, Carrie Underwood, Gretchen Wilson and Rufus Wainwright. The CD/DVD titled Decades Live captured the Wilson sisters and their unusual lineup of guest artists in a concert that took place in March, 2006 at the Etess Arena in Atlantic City. The 14 song collection gets released January 25th.

Farrokh Bulsara was born on September 5th, 1946 Zanzibar. The future front man of Queen died of AIDS on this day in 1991. Session legend Donald 'Duck' Dunn was born on 11/24 (1941). along with Move & Electric Light Orchestra veteran Bev Bevan (1944) and keyboard player Lee Michaels (1948). Eric Carr of KISS died of cancer on this date in 1991, and Pink Floyd released the Shine multi-disc set on this day in 1992.

 

11-23-1981 For Those About To Rock released

 

AC/DC was out with their 8th album and second fronted by Brian Johnson on this date in 1981. Born 11/23, Bruce Hornsby (1954). Bob Dylan was on-set to start filming the Pat Garrett movie in 1972. Jerry Lee Lewis was arrested outside Graceland with a gun, demanding to see Elvis on this day in 1976. Junior Walker died of cancer on this date in 1995.

 

11-22-1949 Steven Van Zandt born

 

Happy Thanksgiving, Rockers! Musical things to be thankful for on this day...
Jesse Colin Young (1941), The E Street Band's Steven Van Zandt (1949), Talking Heads Tina Weymouth (1950) were born 11/22. On this day in 1968 the Kinks released Village Green Preservation Society. On a sad note, today marked the final performance of Clarence Clemons with Bruce and the band when Springsteen wrapped up his Working On A Dream tour in Buffalo in 2009.

11-20 Gregg Allman and Joe Walsh born

Two guitar greats were born one year apart on this date; Duane Allman in 1946, Joe Walsh in '47. Also born 11/20, Norman Greenbaum (Spirit In The Sky) in 1942. In 1991 the Rolling Stones inked a $45 million deal with Virgin Records. A liver transplant gave David Crosby a new lease on life on this day in 1994 , and Canned Heat veteran Henry Vestine lost his on 11/20/1997.

Metallica foundation donates $100k to assist wildfire relief efforts

 

Metallica's  All Within My Hands Foundation steps up with $100,000 donation with equal parts going to a Community Foundation and LA Fire Department foundation. Group members are also encouraging fans to do what they can to help those in fire ravaged parts of California. Get more on the Foundation here.

11-18-1974 The Labm Lies Down On Broadway released

11/18/1974 Genesis released The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, the groups last with Peter Gabriel. Stevie Nicks released Rock A Little on this day in 1985, and Metallica put out Reload 11/18/1997. Among the Rockers born on this day are Graham Parker (1950), Clover & Doobie Brothers veteran John McFee (1953), Kim Wilde (1960) and Metallica's Kirk Hammet. On this date in '71 Procol Harum recorded their album with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. And AC/DC's Malcolm Young passed away on this day in 2017.

 

11-15-1970's Van Morrison, Grand Funk and Grateful Dead releases

Artists and band visions of albums finding their way onto holiday gift lists made every November a big month for new releases. These three hit the street on this date in the '70's: Van Morrison's His Band and the Street Choir (1970), Grand Funk Railroad's E Pluribus Funk (1971) and Shakedown Street from the Grateful Dead.

Neil Young's house claimed by wildfire

Just before his birthday today, Neil Young learned his California home was claimed by one of the wildfires raging in Southern California. It's the second time fire has cost Young a home. He joined a growing chorus of those critical of Donald Trump's tweeting to blame the fires on forestry mismanagement. Young wrote on his archives site, "firefighters have never seen anything like this in their lives. Imagine a leader who defies science, saying these soultions shouldn't be part of his decision making on our behalf"

Joe Perry hospitalized in New York

 

Joe Perry was rushed to a New York City hospital late Saturday night (11/10) after the Aerosmith guitarist made a guest appearance with Billy Joel during the Piano Man's Madison Square Garden concert. CNN reports that Perry was treated by paramedics backstage who used a tracheal device to improve his breathing before transporting him to a hospital. Joe had a similar medical scare two years ago while playing New York with the Hollywood Vampires.

11-11-1972 Berry Oakley dies

 

On this day in 1968 John Lennon and Yoko Ono released Unfinished Music No. 1: Rwo Virgins. The album's front and back cover photos featured the couple, front and back, unclothed, resulting in many stores refusing to stock the album without an outer brown paper sleeve.
Born on 11/11, Chris Dreja of the Yardbirds (1944) and Marshall Crenshaw (1954). On this day in 1972 Berry Oakley met the same fate Duane Allman had just over a year earlier. The Allman Brothers Band bass player was killed in a motorcycle crash in Macon, Georgia. The Grateful Dead played Saturday Night Live on this date in 1978. 11/11/1997 Metallica did a free concert in a Philadelphia parking lot for 30,000 fans.

One of the earliest concept albums dropped on this day in 1967 when the Moody Blues released Days of Future Passed. Other 11/10 album releases include Neil Young's Zuma (1975), Give Em Enough Rope by the Clash (1978) and Live 1975-85 from Bruce Springsteen (1986) The late King Crimson and Emerson Lake & Powell veteran Greg Lake was born on this day in 1948

11-9-1976 Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers release debut

 

On 11/9/1976 Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers released their debut album. Aerosmith's Done With Morrors hit the streets on this date in 1985. Some shortened band names members born on this day include CCR co-founding brother Tom Fogerty (1941).BOC's Eric Bouchard on 11/9/1948 and REO's Alan Gratzer (1948). John Lennon's photo was on the cover of the first edition of Rolling Stone, issued on this day in 1967

November 7ths past produced some big releases. The Eagles Live dropped on this day in 1980. Yes released 90125 three years later. Eric Clapton's Journeyman came out on this day in 1989, and Alice In Chains released their self-titled album in 1995. Jason Newsted had his Metallica debut on this day in 1986.

Eyellusion, the company that produced the Ronnie James Dio hologram, has announced another 100 dates for that tour and will add a virtual Frank Zappa tour in the near future.

Glenn Frey of the Eagles was born on this day in Detroit in 1948.  On 11/6/1965 the Fillmore West opened in San Francisco and the Stones appeared on Shidig.  In 1981 The Cars released Shake It Up. In 1991 Scorpions Crazy World dropped.  In 1993 Pearl Jam did a benefit concert for the preservation of Apache grounds in Mesa, Arizona. Joe Walsh performed the National Anthem before a Lakers-Clippers game in 2008. A realtor donated $250,000 at the Stand Up For Heros benefit for a guitar lesson from Bruce Springsteen and Roger Waters performed with Wounded Warrior musicians during the 2013 benefit in New York City.  And AC/DC drummer was arrested when a search of his home related to a murder threat turned up meth and marijuana.

Patriots unis featured the logo and it was also emblazoned on the scoreboard at Gillette Stadium.

11-5-1959 Bryan Adams born

Happy birthday Bryan Adams, born on this day in 1959.  Others arriving on November 5 include Ike Turner (1931), Art Garfunkel (1941) and Gram Parsons (1946).  Ozzy Osbourne bailed on Black Sabbath on this date in 1977. In 1984 REO Speedwagon released Wheels Are Turnin.  11/5/1991 Stevie Ray Vaughan's The Sky Is Crying got released. In 1994 Fred Sonic Smith, MC5 founding member and husband of Patti Smith, died of a heart attack, and in 1999 Van Halen booted Gary Cheronne from his short-lived gig as the group's frontman.

 

11-4-1975 David Bowie debuts Golden Years on Soul Train

On November 4, 1975, David Bowie appeared on Soul Train to debut his song Golden Years. Show host Don Cornelius introed him as David Boowie, and David later was apologetic about how out of synch his lip synch ended up being. The following year on this day Zeppelin's Song Remains The Same movie prermiered and in 1977 The Last Waltz, the film of The Band's Thanksgiving '76 farewell concert opened.

Promoter Bill Graham's personal collection of posters created for shows at the Fillmore and the Avalon Ballroom is going up for auction next Friday (11/9).  The wild thing is taht proceeds from the sale, estimated value north of a half a million dollars, will be used to restore the Starship Enterprise Paramount Pictures created.

Springsteen On Broadway album coming

On December 16th Bruce Springsteen will close out his Broadway run with performance 236 of Springsteen On Broadway. Netflix will give fans unable or unwilling to pay the price of getting a ticket to experience it live the chance to take it in with a streamed presentation of one of the performances starting on the closing night's date. Two days before that, an album of highlights from the Broadway run will get released.

Traffic & Blind Faith veteran Ric Grech was born on this day in 1946. Red Hot Chili Peppers Anthony Keidis in 1962.The Grateful Dead released American Beauty on November 1, 1970. The following year, Billy Joel put out Cold Spring Harbor. In 1978 Eric Clapton released Backless, and in '79 A Night In The Ruts from Aerosmith made its debut.
