Ozzy Osbourne calls the chance to headline in Hyde Park an honor, noting, 'The first time I came to London I didn't have a pot to piss in. I spent the advance I got for the first album on a new pair of shoes and some Brut aftershave. Amost 50 years on, we're doing a bit better for ourselves, so I may even splash on some new aftershave before taking the stage'.

Hypnotic Eye, a new album of material from Tom Petty & The heartbreakers should be out this summer. The 11 track release has been a work-in-progress since the summer of 2011. Petty tells Rolling Stone the album marks a return to an edgier sounding time int he band's history, noting, 'We hadn't made a straight hard-rockin' record, from beginning to end, in a long time.' While getting Hypnotic Eye out is his top priority, Tom also hopes to release an expanded edition of his 1994 solo release Wildflowers before Christmas. The song in the group of 10 bonus tracks Petty wants to include on the reissue that has him most excited is one he professes to not even remember writing. He calls it '...uptempo but very unusual' . Also possibly in the works is a live release culled from the group's New York and LA residencies in 2013.

Things are not at all alright between Eddie Money and Kenny Loggins from Eddie's perspective. That came out loud and clear when Money was being interviewed by Kidd Rock on WEBN in Cincinnati. Money says he got zero credit from Loggins after joining him to sing on his biggest solo hit, I'm Alright. Money told listeners, 'I sang the bridge on that, we were label mates, you know'. But he was just getting started on why he says he'd probably punch Loggins out if the two ever cross paths. He followed-up his diss of Loggins for not giving him a credit on the record by saying, 'Kenny Loggins, I mean, how small can a guy be, that he divorces his wife and marries his therapist. Gimme a break!' Next, Money brough up another reason he has no respect for Loggins. Children of both of the singers went up against each other on the MTV Rock The Cradle reality talent competition. Eddie contends his daughter out-performed Kenny's kid, '...the TV people found out that I was gonna be on the road the last week, so they let Kenny Loggins' kid win it, and that kid was a bum too.' When Kidd Chris suggested a celebrity boxing ring might be a good place for Money & Loggins to meet, Money said, 'I'll knock him out in 20 seconds.'

Neil Young's Kickstarter campaign to raise backing bucks for his Pono music player
Roger Waters is no stranger to controversy, but the former Pink Floyd member faces a harsh backlash over his decision to project a Star of David onto an inflated pig floating above the audience and stage during recent concerts. The barrage of criticism resulting from that has prompted Waters to writ to the Daily Telegraph to defend his position on the Palestinian situation and contend that he has nothing against Jews. The open letter reads, in part, 'Iam vociferous in my support for the Palestinian people's struggle for basic human rights, including their right to self-determination', and adds, 'It is true that I oppose the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and the maintenance of the siege of Gaza. It is not, however, true, that I am an anti-Semite or that I am against the Israeli people.'

Neil Young is turning to Kickstarter to supplement funding to launch his ultra fidelity music format and player, both of which are named Pono. The March 15 launch of the online campaign will offer people kicking-in some bucks a special discount on the reported $399 price of the player when it becomes available. Young says the superior to mp3 and wav format he has developed is '...about the music, real music' and adds that the PonoPlayer will be '...the world's greatest sounding, user-friendly music player' available. The player is expected to sport 128GB of on-board storage augmented by a memory card slot that can boost that capacity significantly. It is not yet clear how much larger than high sample rate mp3 or wav files the Pono file of the same song will be or whether Young is overstating the degree of difference the average user will experience when he says tat hearing a song of Pono for the first time will be '...like that blast of daylight when you leave a movie theater on a sun-filled day'.
Running business ventures, hob-nobbing with the rich and famous and being political and social activists apparently has not left the members of U2 enough time to work on music. Billboard has confirmed that the album from the Irish Rockers expected this spring is being pushed all the way into 2015. In addition to making fans wait several more months for the next release, the delay puts a tour that was slated to open in September on-hold for almost a year.

The Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver veteran will tear through riffs made famous by Randy Rhodes and Zakk Wylde on stage at Club Nokia with Ozzy on May 12.

Frank Zappa was just twisted enough to consider it a compliment that Italian researchers have chosen to name an acne-causing bacteria for him. The grapevine dwelling strain of bacteria discovered at the Italy Centre for Sustainable Agro-Ecosystems and Bioresources is P Acnes Zappae. It is causing a stir because it is the first case of a strain of plant based bacteria that's been found that developed from a human one - an occurance that probably happened about 8,000 years before its namesake wrote and recorded Call Any Vegetable. The scientists involved in the discovery credit the Mothers of Invention founding guitarist, singer and songwriter because his approach to music inspired them to think outside the box when doing their research. Zappa's widow also considers it a fitting honor that a bacteria shares the family name. Speaking with USA Today, Gail Zappa said, 'For me this is just an extension of Frank's means of gluing things together, making sense of the universe. It's strickly conceptual continuity.'
