There have certainly been times in the long tortured history of the Chicago Cubs when the manager calling his infield '...totally messed up' could be assumed to be a reference to the team's caliber of play. But Joe Maddon was talking about the field itself. Wrigley hosted an AC/DC concert on September 15th that caused enough damage to to the infield to make relatively routine ground balls an adventure. Damage beyond the base paths was so extensive that all of the outfield turf was replaced following the concert. With the Cubs in contention for post season play, MLB's hippest manager hopes the Wrigley infield gets enough TLC to rule out the possibility that a bad bounce on a critical play in a crucial game could put his team on the Highway To Hell instead of keeping it on the road to a long longed pennant.

The New York sale could produce a top bid in excess of $400,000 for the once simple white sports car that Joplin purchased in 1968. Unlike some exotic cars that musicians drove only on special occasions, the eye catching convertible was driven extensively by the front woman for Big Brother & The Holding Company. Joplin's sister says, 'Janis drove the car everywhere' in the San Francisco Bay Area and that the car also accompanied her to Southern California when she was recording in LA. The one-of-a-kind Porsche has been on display at the Rock Hall Of Fame in Cleveland for 20 years. It is one of 30 uniquely adorned cars being featured in the Driven by Disruption auction being conducted on December 10.

The drummer in Richrath's solo band, Tim Fiers, expressed his condolences, calling Richrath '... one of the greatest guitarists the state of Illinois has produced.' No cause of death was provided for Richrath, who Cronin called '...both a unique guitarist and songwriter, and the embodiment of the tough guy with a heart of gold. I learned most of what I know about being in a rock band from Gary Richrath.'

John Fogerty has plenty of reasons to feel bitter about the music industry - and he does. Fortunate Son; My Life, My Music, the book the former Creedence Clearwater Revival front man is releasing on October 6, chronicles the long, contentious relationship the singer has had with band mates, including his late brother, and a host of other industry figures through the decades. Fogerty equates life in the music business and being in a band to being in a foxhole during wartime. Fogerty was introduced to the deceit within the industry early when a label executive changed the name of the band without consulting with the group, which found out after the record had already been packaged. He attributes his falling out with CCR's Stu Cook and Doug Clifford, who now tour as Creedence Clearwater Revisited, to the pair's decision to sell the equal shares they received from John's writing to producer Saul Zaentz for $30,000 in 1988. Zaentz later sued Fogerty, claiming that John's solo track The Old Man Down The Road infringed on Run Through The Jungle, one of the Creedence songs the producer obtained a portion of the publishing rights to. Fogerty was so disgusted with Zaentz and his band mates that he refused to perform Creedence songs for a long period in his career.
